Should children in the immediate family be invited to the wedding?
My nephew has informed us that, only children over the age of 5 will be invited.
Answer:
Thank you for your question regarding your nephew's wedding.
Believe me, inviting children to a wedding is a very controversial topic and is questioned quite a lot.
Your nephew is utilizing a way of inviting, but still limiting children to his wedding that is sometimes used.
Perhaps he is afraid that younger children will be too distracting. I do believe, though, that if you do have a policy regarding children, that it should apply to all guests, immediate family or not.
My own view on this topic is that I am in favor of inviting all children of invited guests to the wedding. I believe that weddings are a joining of families, and that children are a part of "family" as well.
Inviting kids, especially under age 5, usually does not add very much cost to the wedding as most will share with the parents and the kids are usually the first ones on the dance floor having a good time!
I hope that this helps you, but write back anytime you have questions.
