Design Your Own Wedding Dress - part two

...Go Back to Design Your Wedding Dress - part one

When you Design Your Own Wedding Dress, you can really have the dress of your dreams, but first you have to investigate and learn about all the different options you have to think about to incorporate into your design.

Design Your Own Wedding Dress - Style and Shape

When choosing the style of wedding dress, you have to consider a few things. First you have to think about where you are going to be wearing it.

I mean where is your wedding ceremony going to be? Your dress will be totally different if you are going to have a beach wedding where you would be looking for a Beach Casual Wedding Dress rather than a traditional wedding dress for a typical indoor ceremony.

Secondly, you have to think about your body type or body shape. You want your dress to look fantastic on you so you have to choose a dress style that will complement your body.

And don't forget, you not only have to look good in the front, but you also want to look good from the back since most ceremonies happen in front of guests with your back to them.

Design Your Own Wedding Dress - Best for Your Body Shape and Size

  • Inverted triangle - if you are in inverted triangle, this means that your shoulders and your bust are wider than your hips, so what you need to do is to drive the attention away to your lower half.

In order to do this, look for styles they do not have a lot of embellishments and beading in the bust area. Diminish your bust with straps set widely apart, and v-shaped or off the shoulder necklines. Definitely avoid empire waistlines, cinched fabric around the bustline and any heavy beadwork.

Full skirts set as a line gowns and ballgowns will help to balance out your figure. Short skirts can also downplay your upper half by drawing the eye downward.

  • Triangle - if you are a triangle shape, this means that your shoulders and bust are smaller then your hips. This is sometimes called the pear shape.

If you are lacking in the bust you can always enhance the area with padding. However if you don't want to do this, you should choose a gown that has more beadwork and ruching in the bodice area.

Cap sleeves will also add volume to your top, as will off the shoulder tops as well. A jewel or a bateau will work nicely as well. Stay away from bodices made of stiff fabric as they can cause embarrassing gaps.

  • Hourglass - if you are an hourglass shape, this means that you have a defined waist and similarly sized shoulders and hips.

You are a very lucky bride because you can pull off almost any design a gown! You can certainly accentuate your defined waist with a beautifully embellished accent such as a sash.

The you can also emphasise your shape with the romantic ballgown or accentuate your hourglass figure with the form wedding dress such as a mermaid style.

  • Rectangle - if you are a rectangle then your bust waist and hips are similarly sized and you need to create feminine curves.

You can do this by adding waist defining details such as a sash or other embellishments to create the appearance of curves.

A fitted bodice and a full skirt will also give you the illusion of feminine curves.

  • Apple Shaped - if you are apple shaped, you are thicker through the waist. Choose an empire or A-line style which will help to conceal your pudginess well still showing on your shoulders and bust.

Definitely stay away from any gowns with tightly fitted waistlines! Flowing matte fabrics will not cast shadows and can help to deemphasise your curves.

  • Tall and Slender - if you're tall and slender, you could balance your statuesque silhouette with a fitted bodice and a voluminous skirt.

If your torso is long, break it up with a colored sash or bodice embellishments and beading. Definitely avoid too straight or clingy dresses which may make you look like a walking skeleton.

  • Petite - if you're petite, you want to find a dress that will make you appear taller.

A sheath or princess cut gown will help to add length to your figure and A-line, empire, or tea length dresses will help draw the eye upward.

Avoid excessive embellishments, collars, cuffs and sleeves.
