Destination Wedding Guest List Problem
by MOB
My daughter and her fiance are having a very costly destination wedding, which they are paying for.
I am recently divorced and my daughter wanted to invite two of my closest friends from work to ease the tension of the ex being there.
One is married, so the invitation included his name because she insisted he wouldn't come. "It would be just the two friends in one room".
Last minute, the husband decides to come, and now my daughter is upset. What do I do? Please help.
Answer:Thanks for your question! Oh boy, that is a toughee!
Unfortunately, etiquette dictates that once you invite someone, it is not proper to uninvite them.
They always say that hindsight is always 20/20 and knowing what you know now, if your daughter had to do it all over again, she probably wouldn't assume that the husband would not accept the invitation.
But she did invite him and he accepted, so let's deal with it.
I'm thinking that the problem now is that the two friends can't share the same room with the husband coming along.
Would the other unmarried friend be able to share a room with someone else...perhaps you?
If this would be unacceptable perhaps a splitting of the extra cost of an extra room would help your daughter and her fiance out?
