Dinner Prayer At Wedding Reception

Who Says the Dinner Prayer at Wedding Reception:

If the couple was married in a religious ceremony, they will traditionally invite the priest, etc. who married the to the wedding reception.

It is usual then, that they give the duty of saying the dinner prayer over to him/her. However, if the marriage ceremony was conducted by an officiant and not overly religious, then it could either be done by the officiant or it could be given by a special friend or family member of the bride and groom.

If you are asked by the couple to give the prayer or blessing of the food before the meal is served, it is a great honor and you should definitely work on writing something down rather than give an "off the cuff" dinner prayer/blessing.

It is best to keep the prayer/blessing short and incorporate the following:

• thank the higher power for the meal which everyone is about to eat
• thank and bless everyone attending the reception
• ask the higher power to bless the new couple in their marriage

If you are unsure about writing the prayer, do consult with the couple or even a spiritual leader for some help.

Bless us, O Lord, and these gifts,
which we are about to receive from thy bounty
through Christ our Lord. Amen


Wedding Dinner Blessing...

Lord God, Creator of the universe, Father of us all,
we have gathered here around this dinner table to celebrate the love and commitment
that have united (bride's name) and (groom's name), in a wonderful bond of marriage.
Bless, Father, this food that we are about to receive with grateful hearts
as a sign of your continuous bounty and providence.
May your generous blessing descend also upon these newly married spouses,
their families and friends present here at this joyful banquet.
We make this prayer in the name of Jesus our Lord and Savior,
who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, on God for ever and ever. Amen


Wedding Dinner Blessing...
