Guests Inviting Themselves - You Can't Invite Yourself!

Technically, I am not her co-worker...we just work at the same place....she has invited herself to my wedding along with her husband.

I am a co-worker of her husband, but I did not plan on inviting him either....what should I do?

Answer by Diane:

Wow! That's very forward of her inviting herself to your wedding, not to mention being very rude.

It is your wedding and you are definitely the one to be in control of your guest list.

If you don't want to invite this person and her husband, then you certainly don't have to, so let's figure out how to handle the situation.

I'm not sure if you are inviting other co-workers or not, but if you aren't, you can always blame not inviting them on costs, size limitations on the ceremony and reception venue and guest list, etc.

She has really made it a difficult time for you by rudely inviting herself and adding more stress to your life than you already have.

You can make sure that she knows that she is not invited by letting her know that the invites have gone out (she won't receive one), the RSVPs are coming in (not from her).

Seriously, she's the one who should be embarassed about the situation, not you.

If she pressures you for an invite, stick to your guns and use the reasons above if you wish to be gentle.

Perhaps there is another co-worker who can help explain the situation to her if she still is not "getting it".

Take care and I hope it helps,

Diane
