When hiring a wedding planner, like with any of your other vendors or helpers whom you entrust with a key component of your special day, you must make sure they are someone whose work you respect and whose references you have researched.
Indeed, these are important, but also you need to seek out something even a bit more over reliable service...you need to be able to establish a rapport with an individual. It makes no sense to work with someone with whom you do not feel completely comfortable with. You must be able to communicate your expectations and dreams. If you find a wedding planner or wedding consultant who does not listen to you, is bossy, tries to convince you that they know what is best for you, has no references or won't sign a written contract, I would probably keep looking. Remember, you want someone who is professional, courteous and makes you feel comfortable. Anyone can actually call themselves a wedding planner, wedding consultant or bridal consultant. It might be a good idea to look for someone associated with a professional association such as the Association of Bridal Consultants. Advantages to Hiring a Wedding PlannerThere are some distinct advantages to hiring a wedding planner to help you with your wedding planning. Not only will he/she take over many of the duties that you would have to do or look into, but they will also make sure that you stay on track with time management and also stay within your budget. Although you might have to pay upfront for their services, you will probably save in the long run because they will know which vendors will offer the best prices and best services. Also, they will know which locations will be the best suited for the type of wedding you want as well as how much you are willing to spend. Wedding planners are the best to use especially if you are short on time!
