How to Put Together a Simple Wedding Invitation

We purchased very simple invitations to do ourselves.

The kit came with the invitations and outer envelope, response card and envelope. These invitations do not have inner envelopes.

How should they be assembled and how should they be addressed to include families since there is not an inner envelope?

Answer by Diane:

The multiple envelopes are somewhat redundant nowadays as they used to have a purpose in the olden days of the outer envelope protecting the inner from dirty hands of delivery riders.

When the invitation was delivered, the outer envelope was shed before presenting it to the master or mistress of the house.

So you just simply put the invitation together as always just without the outer envelope.

Nowadays, the postal system is much "cleaner" and so I would definitely address your invitations "and family" should you wish to invite your guest's children to your wedding.

If you feel more comfortable, address the outer envelope to the parents with an additional note inside inviting the children.
