"Miss" versus "Ms." on Wedding Invitations
by Aimee
When should you use 'Miss' versus 'Ms.' when referring to the bride in a wedding invitation? Or do they both have the same meaning?
I am a bride who has never been married before.
Answer:Thanks for your question!
It used to be that if a woman was single she would be known as "Miss" and a divorced woman was known as "Ms", but now it seems like anything goes.
For example, one of my daughter's teachers at school is living common-law but calls herself "Ms."
So, here is the best advice that I can give you...
if you know what the person goes by, then use that (ask around to your parents or relatives).
If you don't, then do consider using the term "Ms."
This is a fail-safe option which is equivalent to Mr. and can be used regardless of the individual's age or marital status.
Hope it helps,
