Mothers dresses?

Does the bride have to pick out mothers dresses??

Answer:

Let your Mom pick out her dress with your careful input. Here are some of the things to think about.

Nowadays, a lot of younger mothers are wearing halter dresses with jackets. The jacket makes the dress appropriate for the wedding ceremony, yet it can be taken off for the gala dance later.

Many mothers are choosing suits and more elaborate dresses also.

It has also become acceptable to wear sexy, elegant outfits that show some skin.

The general trend: moving away from the traditional styles and towards a more hip look.

Whatever the Moms choose, the key is to look for the perfect outfit early.

Just as with a wedding dress, it is highly likely that they will have to have it ordered in and perhaps altered.

If they wait until the last minute, they might not get the dress they really want.

A lot of consulting must be done before ordering Mom's dress. It should complement your (the bride's) choices for yourself and the wedding party, both in color and in formality.

You (the bride) may envision the mothers in a certain style or shade, so be sure to make your opinions known (or suggestions known) about the Mom's wedding-day attire.

The bride's mom should discuss her dress with the mother of the groom, so they will avoid wearing clashing colors, or worse yet, showing up in the exact same gown.

Bone, off-white, navy and black remain the most popular mother-of-the-bride shades, while sage green, sienna and pale to bright blues are steadily gaining ground.

Black is an especially fashionable choice, especially for ultra-formal evening weddings.

Only white remains a wedding-day taboo.

Traditionally, the mother of the groom follows the bride’s mother’s lead in terms of style, length and formality.

If your wedding is very formal (ballroom reception or the equivalent), it's fine for your mother to go long any time of day.

If you're having an informal affair, a dressy suit or cocktail-length dress is more appropriate both before and after noon.

As far as beading goes, Mom should save the sparkle for evening nuptials.

It's fine if she wants to wear a trouser ensemble, as long as it's in a dressy fabric like chiffon, satin, silk-shantung or organza.

When it comes to the style, she should consider flowing palazzo pants and a matching top (perhaps with a little beading for an evening wedding).

If she's in great shape, a smart satin suit featuring narrow pants and a fitted jacket is a chic choice.

Both mothers of the bride and groom can wear the same shade or color as long as they don't show up in the same dress.
