Review of "bestdressprice"

UPS mailing bag -- the dress was shipped in this

In an effort to keep costs down, my daughter and I did a lot of searching online for wedding dresses, and then went to a number of stores to try on designer dresses.

After trying on many designer dresses and some from David's Bridal, she tried on and fell in love with a Casablanca dress that cost about $800.

Since dresses from this company are never discontinued, the cost was about the same at any bridal boutique and online.

We found an online store called BestDressPrice (based in China) that advertises knock-offs of designer dresses, so we decided to take a chance, and ordered the dress for around $300.

It arrived in about 5 weeks... in a UPS packing ENVELOPE (yes... I mean envelope... not box.)

And that's when I started to worry.

What the online provider failed to mention was that they only do a replica of the "shell" of the dress... so if you decide to go this route, you will need to purchase the correct slip(s) and bra to wear under the dress (whereas, if you order from a boutique, all of that comes with the dress... at least for Casablanca dresses.)

Also, we were told by the online company to send her measurements so that the dress could be made the correct size.

The dress we were sent is at least two sizes larger than it should be, which means some rather intricate beadwork will have to be re-done in order for it to fit correctly.

We have found a seamstress who says she can make the dress fit, and she did say it seems to be well-made.

The beading is not exactly the same as the designer dress, but it was a close enough match that we weren't too disappointed.

We are keeping the dress... but if I had it to do over again, I would just fork out the $800 and know that I have all of the items I need directly from the designer.

In the end, we MAY save about $150 ... I just hope it's worth it.
