Too Early to Reserve?

by Ashley
(Garland, TX)

Is it too early to reserve my reception and ceremony places now?

I know who's going to do the food, but I don't know what kind of food?

Do you have any suggestions on that?

Thanks again so much, it was a big help.

Answer by Diane:

Hello Ashley,

I'm glad my answer to your last question was helpful and I'm glad that you're back to ask a few more.

It's always better to be early than late when booking your ceremony and reception venues.

Check with the ceremony and reception venues that you have chosen to see what their policy is for booking.

Some like to have them booked way ahead of time, whereas others like to book a little closer to your wedding date.

Make sure that your deposit comes with a receipt and if you can book it with a credit card, that will protect you just in case if any of your venues go out of business prior to your wedding.

You might also want to check into Wedding Insurance to cover yourself that way as well.

Now, as for the kind of food to serve at your wedding, that all depends on your budget, the time of day (ie. brunch, lunch, dinner, etc.) and of course, what kind of food that you like to eat.

I'm going to think that your wedding is going to be a typical sit down dinner reception.

A lot of people start with salad or soup and assorted buns and breads. You can move on to a pasta dish and then serve roast chicken or roast beef with vegetables.

Finish off with a dessert and of course, your wedding cake later on.

That's is a reasonable and pretty standard wedding reception meal. Now if you would like to do something different, that's totally up to your and your fiancé.

You might have it in your budget to be able to afford to add in some seafood or something else you really like.

Talk things over with your caterer and see what they would charge for different meal types, then go back to your guest list and think about your budget and what you could afford.

You might also think about your guests and if there are any that have allergies or special dietary requirements ie. vegetarian, vegan, etc.

I think the main thing is to serve good food and enough of it!

Hope that helps you out, but do come back and ask again.

Take care and best wishes always,

Diane
