Unusual wedding dresses are a perfect fit for the bride looking for a wedding dress "outside the box".
By "outside the box", I mean outside of the traditional white or off-white satin, chiffon, long skirted with a train kind of wedding dress. One thing you have to make sure, if you are going for an unusual wedding dress, is that it is going to fit in with the rest of your wedding plans. For example, if the rest of your wedding is totally traditional (hall, church, etc.) and you show up in a Medieval Wedding Dress whilst your fiance is in a traditional styled tux, it might look kind of funny. So, what makes a dress "unusual"? Well, you're going to have to look at fabric, style, and color.
FabricUsual wedding dresses use traditional wedding dress fabrics of satin, silk, chiffon, crepe, etc. If you want to go unusual think instead of batiste (great for victorian and vintage dresses), velvet (great for winter wedding dresses) and other rich fabrics. And don't forget using lace. Lace Wedding Dresses can be quite elegant but they can also be unusual.
StyleTraditional styles of dresses focus around the basic shapes of A-line, Ball Gown, Empire, Sheath and Princess. Unusual wedding dresses might use more of a mermaid, baby doll, trumpet or even a two piece. They might even focus on a time period such as the Renaissance, Medieval, Victorian, Vintage, Hippie, etc. and implement all the different characteristics that are reflective of those times.
ColorThe more traditional wedding dresses use fabrics in the color of white and off-whites or ivories, etc. Unusual Wedding Dresses go for bold colors of reds, maroons, blues, pinks, etc. Whether it be just a splash with a colored sash on a typical white dress or the whole dress could be bathed in it.
