Venue Discount - Can I Ask For One?

Hi. We are planning to get married in about two months (April - early May).

There are banquet facilities with availability on such short notice.

My question is: Can I ask for a discount since the Big Day is so close and since it's technically "off season"?

Also, how do I know I am getting a discount (i.e. if they offer me $100/head, how do I know what they normally charge?).

Thanks so much. Great Site!!!

Answer by Diane:

Hello and welcome to the site (and thanks for the compliment!)

I definitely would ask for a discount. Look at it this way, it is kind of like hotels offering last minute room sales so that they fill the hotel.

This banquet/hall has an opening, if it doesn't get filled instead of earning an income, it will be empty and an expense.

I would definitely say that you have a few places in mind and you are shopping for the best deal.

That should up the ante so that the manager (and I would talk to the manager in charge, they are the ones that can do the offering of deals!) will offer you a deal to secure your booking.

If you are not sure that you are getting a good deal, just ask how much it would be to delay the wedding to summer and book the facility then. (Just out of curisoity, of course).

Hope it helps you out and take care,

Diane
