Wedding Date on the Long Weekend?

by Batool
(Ottawa, Canada)

I need advice!

We are thinking of having our wedding date on the long weekend on Sunday, July 1st, 2012.

So Monday everyone will be off, and that way it we are also saving almost $2000 on the hall.

Based on your experience, will that inconvenience our guests?

And will other vendors charge more just because it's on July 1st which will bring it back up by $2000?

I am very stuck and any advice is appreciated!

Answer by Diane:

Hello Batool,

Thanks for your question and welcome to our community!

It is amazing how much money you can save by planning your wedding either in a month that is off season or if it is on a day other than "Saturday"!

When you book your wedding date at the most popular times (summer on a Saturday), you can expect to pay a premium.

If you book, like you are planning, on a Sunday, you can expect to save not only on your Hall/Reception site, but you can also bargain for better deals with your photographer, videographer, florist, baker, etc.

This is because they will be only too happy to fill their calendar with more clients and business, so be sure to shop around for the best deal (don't sacrifice quality for price though!).

One thing I would definitely recommend for you to do...send out Save the Dates.

Why I recommend you doing this is because you are planning your wedding on a long weekend.

Some of your guests will undoubtedly plan to get away for the long weekend if they don't know about your wedding, so by sending out Save the Dates prior to your wedding invitations, you can be sure that they will refrain from booking that weekend for a vacation away.

There's a lot of Save the Dates for you to choose from and there are even DIY Save the Date Kits to offer you a more economical choice.

Hope that helps you out!

Take care and best wishes always,

Diane
