Wedding Dresses for Men

There is an increasing demand for Wedding Dresses For Men as more and more parts of the world are becoming more liberal and understanding.

Transgender, transsexual, transvestite, and cross-dressing men may all be looking to find wedding dresses when they decide to tie the knot with their partners.

When looking for Wedding Dresses For Men, you must look at some important information in order to find the perfect dress that will fit properly.

Firstly, you should know the many different sources to look through to find that perfect dress.

Sources For Finding Wedding Dresses For Men

  • Bridal Dress Shops - they may have a great many dresses, but normally are not very used to fitting men in wedding dresses.

There are a few ways around this, though, you could call around to salons to find out if they have experience in this field or ask some friends who have gotten married already where they found their dress.

  • Ebay - Ebay can have some really great deals on wedding dresses. Just be careful about sizing and finding out shipping charges. It is good to ask any questions of your seller prior to bidding or buying and make sure you protect yourself by paying through PayPal.
  • Order from the Internet - If you are feeling a little self-conscious about going into a bridal dress shops, check out the many Online Dress Suppliers that offer extremely good pricing and the convenience of shopping from your own home.
  • Classified - Whether you check out your local newspaper's classified or online classified, you can certainly find dresses that have either never been used for a good price or been used just once!
  • Department Stores - Department stores such as Sears, JC Penny, etc. usually carry wedding dresses at lower prices.
  • Get It Made - Because you are dealing with fitting a dress to a man's body when it is completely designed for a woman's, it might just be the best thing to purchase a pattern and material and have it made exactly to your dimensions.

Find a talented seamstress that is willing to take on the challenge of making wedding dresses for men.

If you discuss what you are looking for with the seamstress prior to purchasing the pattern and material, she may have some really good suggestions as to which style you should stick with according to your body type.

  • Make It Yourself - If you, yourself, are very talented with a sewing machine, why not design it and make it yourself.
  • Wear Your Mom's Dress or Borrow One - Why not ask your Mom to borrow her dress (of course, you're going to have to watch out for sizing) or you could ask a friend who already got married if it would be possible to borrow their wedding dress.
  • Vintage Clothing or Consignment Shops - You may be able to find some suitable wedding dresses for men in vintage clothing or consignment shops.

Special Sizing Requirements for Wedding Dresses For Men

When you are looking for a dress, you have to remember that these dresses are designed for women, who do have a different body shape.

Look carefully at the sizing charts and what measurements go into which size of wedding dress. The sizing is quite different from normal dress sizes, so be sure to measure yourself very carefully.

It is easier to take in but much harder (if not impossible) to let out. You definitely have to make sure that your largest measurement will fit the dress in the right spot (usually your waist).

When shopping for wedding dresses for men you must also take into consideration that women's waist measurements are taken just below the ribcage.

Also watch out if the dress you like has a special waistline. Your shape might change where the actual waistline on the dress will sit and throw off the look you fell in love with.

Be sure to wear the foundation garments you will be wearing with the dress on your wedding day when taking a bustline measurement so that it will be accurate.

It is important to consider your body type when shopping for wedding dresses for men. I think that you might find that dresses that are most often suggested for pregnant brides will be roomy enough.

Those most recommended are ones with an empire styling which will give you enough room for your waist size.

Be careful with sleeves, as although they may hide larger, masculine muscles, they might not fit properly as most sleeves are fitted to more petite women's arms.

Going with a halter-style dress or strapless wedding dress will also avoid the problem of wider shoulders not fitting properly in a dress made for a women's size.

So, although it may take a while to find your perfect wedding dress, you can find a dress that will fit and make your wedding day spectacular.
