Wedding Music Activities For Your Guest's Enjoyment

Fun Wedding Music Activities can be a valuable component of a good wedding reception. Almost as much as the food and drink.

Although you can have a wedding without music (in fact, in some religions, it is what is required), it's likely to be a little quiet and dull, so whichever way you decide to add music to your reception through either a live band, DJ, etc., it should be included.

But music's not just for dancing, there are also quite a few different wedding music activities you can plan to add an element of fun to your wedding.

Songs with Movement

There are just certain songs that get people moving automatically. You can ask your DJ or band for more ideas, but usually they include the "Chicken Dance", "YMCA", the "Macarena" or as my daughter calls it the "Macarenia".

These popular tunes get people up, moving and doing all the silly actions no matter how nicely dressed they may be. Even though you might loathe them, you can be sure that your wedding guests will expect them to be played at your wedding.

By Request

One of the easiest ways to get people up and dancing with these wedding music activities is play the music they want to hear. Before the reception, get little cards or pieces of paper printed up and pencils.

Leave these on each table at the reception indicating that guests should record down which songs they would like to hear throughout the wedding.

When they have filled out their little slip of paper, they should bring it to the DJ or band for him/them to play.

Musical Chairs

Some people get audience participation by playing a version of musical chairs as a wedding music activity. I don't know about this one though.

If you have a very dressed up bunch of guests I'm not sure that they would be so willing to risk ending up falling on the floor.

You could play it either with chairs or use the men kneeling on one knee and the women doing the moving until the music stops. Make sure that there is one less chair than moving participants.

Once it stops, everyone has to find a "chair" to sit on. Whoever doesn't get a "chair" is out. A chair is then removed and played again.

Like I say, I've seen this game get pretty rough and competitiveso you better watch out!

Name that Tune

This is a great game to play to fill time when the guests might by waiting to get to the buffet table, etc. Have your DJ play a small snippet of a song, the first table to call out the correct answer wins a prize.

Now that prize could be something you have previously purchased from the dollar store, etc. or it could even be the right to be the next table called to the buffet table, etc.

Snowball Dance

It can often be hard to get everyone going to the dance floor. This is one way to get the party started. Have the DJ play a song with the bride, groom and the rest of the wedding party dancing.

At some point, have him stop the music. All on the dance floor have to go off and find a new partner in the audience.

Keep this going until the dance floor is full.

There are a lot of different games you can play at your wedding reception. You can find some games to play at Printable Games AtoZ. They have great games you can immediately print for use. Check them out!
