What is an Online Wedding Registry?

What is an online wedding registry?

Many couples who are engaged to be married could not be blamed for getting caught up in the excitement and forgetting a lot of the smaller details involved in planning a wedding, but a wedding registry is something that can make one part of the preparations run a little more smoothly.

A registry is a service provided by some retail stores, but more consistently on-line these days, the idea being that engaged couples can compile a list of preferred gifts for their guests to choose from, saving time and effort.

The basic premise of an online wedding registry is that the stores stock is perused and the couple select which items are useful or desirable to them, compiling a list of gifts for attending guests to choose from.

Whenever a guest picks an item, the registry is updated to show that this selection is no longer available.

The process is becoming more and more popular, not only does it save both the couple and their guest’s valuable time; it also potentially eliminates the receipt of duplicate gifts or unwanted items.

Many engaged couples will be looking for vital pieces that could help when setting up their own home together, things such as cutlery and china-ware, an online registry is a fantastic way to do this without having to contact each and every attendee individually.

In the UK, it is common practice for a registry card to be sent out with the invitations, so guests can go online and see what gifts there are to choose from.

Recent trends also indicate that the type of presents available are changing, with many couples leaning towards gifts that contribute something to the wedding itself – such as the honeymoon, flights or a meal in the days after the ceremony.

In addition, the concept of an online registry opens the wedding up to a more international platform, where guests who are perhaps visiting from abroad can access it from all over the world without difficulty.

A good deal of internet companies also offer their services in bi-lingual formats, making the global community much simpler to reach out to when planning a wedding.

Although some companies differ in how they operate their wedding registries, the basic outline is the same, the major difference being delivery of the gifts – with some firms sending the presents to the guests to pass on, and most delivering them directly to the newly-weds to enjoy.

Rob Turner is from Starlight Registry, a site that allows couples to create their own online cash wedding registry for wedding guests to contribute towards, plus many other benefits for both the planning couple and their guests.
