When Someone Declines to Attend Due to the Someone Else Being on the Guest List....
I have a friend whose son invited his Aunt's Ex.
It was a bad breakup.
His Aunt's ex is now his boss.
Now his Aunt who is also his godmother is refusing to attend.
What is the proper thing to do here? I feel that the ex should not attend, family should come first.
How would he go about uninviting him if that is the case?
Thanks Nicole
Answer:Wow, Nicole! That's a real tough situation. The best thing would have been if the boss/ex wasn't invited in the first place, but it seems as if he was (formally?) and so let's deal with it.
I'm really not sure if it would be proper to uninvite someone if you have already send out the invitation and it could lead to bad feelings between the son and his boss (the ex).
I think you only have a couple of ways to go here.
Hope that one of them declines (the boss/ex preferably), or appeal to the aunt/godmother to attend the wedding as a true gift of love to the son/godson.
It would only be for a few hours and would be especially important for the son.
Should she agree to attend, do make sure to seat them far enough apart at the reception so as to keep the peace.
I really hope everything works out!
Take care,
Diane
