Dance Floor Activities For Your Guests

Dance Floor Activities should be an essential component at most wedding receptions.

Although your guests do look forward to your first dance as a married couple and perhaps the bride's dance with her father, I think you might find that some of them will be reluctant to get up on the dance floor.

I remember when the "everyone participate" dancing started, I felt a great relief that not all the attention was on me and my husband. That all the worries about the day just vanished and what a relief it was.

Not all of your wedding guests will feel this way, in fact, you might even find that some are so overwhelmed with feelings of dance floor inadequacies, that they might even leave the reception early when the dancing starts.

If you implement some dance floor activities into your wedding reception you can achieve greater involvement with your guests.

I have found a few dance floor activities that can achieve this, but you can also ask advice from your DJ or band as to what they have used successfully in the past.

Take Requests

One way to get more of your guests participating in dance floor activities is to play more of the music they like to hear.

I have found one of the easiest ways to accomplish this is to leave slips of paper on the reception tables for guests to fill out.

These slips of paper can then be given to the band or DJ for them to play.

Use the Old Standbys

Another of the easiest ways to get your guests participating in dance floor activities is to have the DJ or band play the old standbys such as the "Chicken Dance", "YMCA", "Macarena" or anything else that gets people moving and joining in. You could even try the "Bunny Hop".

Use a Dance Teacher

A lot of couples nowadays, are preparing for their first dance at their wedding reception by taking ballroom dance lessons.

What if you took it one step further and invited your dance teacher to your wedding reception.

What better way to get your guests on the dance floor than with an experienced teacher teaching steps of the waltz or tango or how about some line dancing with a group of guests.

If you have enough money in your budget, I have been to company Christmas parties where they hire "dancers" to encourage people up on the dance floor.

Sometimes it is easier for people to participate when they see someone else already enjoying themselves on the dance floor.

Snowball It

This is a great way to jump start the dancing at the beginning of the evening. Start with the wedding party, bride and groom included, dancing on the dance floor.

After a bit of time, have the DJ or band stop the music. The female members of the wedding party move into the crowd and bring back one male each.

The male members of the wedding party do the same, but they bring in female guests.

The dancing then begins again. This is repeated until all, or at least more of your guests are dancing.

Freeze It

Have all guests on the dance floor and when the music starts, get them all dancing/moving. When the DJ or band stops, then they have to freeze.

If they fail to freeze right away, then they go to sit back down at their table. In order to make it even more fun, you could offer prizes to the winners left standing at the end.

Limbo

Have your DJ or band play Limbo music, get a pole and see just how low your guests can go!

As a way to encourage more participation in this dance floor activity, you could offer prizes for the winner and runner-ups.

These are just some of the dance floor activities that you can try to get more participation from your wedding guests.

There are a lot of different games you can play at your wedding reception. You can find some games to play at Printable Games AtoZ. They have great games you can immediately print for use. Check them out!
