Make Your Own Bridal Bouquet

One way to save on your wedding expenses, is to make your own bridal bouquet. Now, this may seem like a daunting task, but I will break it down into smaller steps and you will see just how easy it could be.

Decisions

First, you have to make some decisions as to what kind of wedding flowers you are looking for. Think of your wedding dress and what style of bouquet will go nicely with it. Is your dress traditional and tailored, modern, sleek or maybe even a little fussy?

Think about the colors of the bridesmaids and the other attendants. What colors will there dresses be and do you want to incorporate that color group into your bouquet or just theirs?

What is the overall look that you are trying to achieve with your wedding flowers? When looking at examples of wedding flowers are you more drawn to:
  • Soft and Romantic
  • Traditional with all the Frills
  • Elegant and maybe even a little Sophisticated
  • A More Simple Look with No Frills
  • A Modern, perhaps more European look
  • Unique, Whimsical, and Unusual

What style of bouquet are you attracted to, and does it go with the dress and your outline. If you are petite, you don't want something so big that it looks like you are carrying a bush down the aisle!

Here are some of the more popular design shapes and styles to choose from:

  • posy
  • nosegay
  • round
  • hand-tied casual
  • cascade
  • composite
  • pageant
  • pomander

Think about what kinds of flowers you love (and which you hate) and which ones you might be allergic to (or which ones your wedding party might be allergic to). Your wedding day is not the time to find these things out!

One of the easiest ways to make your own bridal bouquet is either to stick with all one kind of flower (such as roses or carnations and to make either a posy, nosegay or round bouquet using just that one kind of flower.

Another easy way to make your own bridal bouquet is to choose different types of flowers but of all the same color. In this way you add texture and interest using the variety of the flowers.

Check out all different variations of wedding flowers at an online website that I recommend at "I Do" Wedding Flowers.
